The Hitchcock 9: In the silent's of Hitchcock, everyone can hear your scream

The British Film Institute began its campaign to restore and save the 9 surviving Hitchcock films last fall.  Over the next 9 weeks I will be highlighting one of the master's silent films per week.  I'd like you to join me in donating to the BFI to help fund the vital effort to preserve for the next generation that cinematic gifts that Sir Alfred has given our generation.  With each passing year it becomes better understood just how important the work of Hitchcock's films have been to film culture and history as a whole, but beyond that, Hitchcock may be the only film director to be recognized across all arts and other cultures as a true master of cinema.

His mastery is evident from his first silent film and it is a shame that these extraordinary films have not been available for modern audiences.  The prints are in need of repair and music will need to be scored and recorded.

Please watch the video below provided by the BFI and come back to this blog each week to see clips, still and a discussion the Hitchcock silents.  In Hitchcock's silents, everyone can hear you scream.
