I'M MAD AS HELL: Sidney Lumet, RIP
From the wonderful the Movie title's still collection, in memory of Sidney Lumet. Lumet, next to Hitchcock, may be the most watched film director of our time. In American schools, Lumet's film of 12 Angry Men has been required viewing for years--usually, interestingly, in the same year that Hitchcock's The Birds is shown to students.
My personal favorite of Lumet's is Network. Like all great and profound works of art, Network has managed to rise in its power with each passing year. And the sentiment that Peter Finch expresses in this now almost universally recognized moment from is just as valid today--maybe more so. Or, I've just gotten older and crankier. But, goddamnit, I'm a man, a human being, and I want you to get out from behind these screens, throwdown those ipads, and go to the nearest window and yell---you get the idea.

:( Love this movie. Hard to pick a favorite: "Serpico"..."The Verdict"... "Dog Day Afternoon"..."The Pawnbroker"..."The Wiz." Okay: Not "The Wiz."
