H9: Downhill (1927)

After The Lodger,  Alfred Hitchcock directed Downhill.  And as Marnie is in many ways a superior film to The Birds, so Downhill is the work of a more experienced and mature filmmaker.  I love this film--it runs a very tight second to my favorite Hitchcock silent, The Manxman.  The embedded video here does not have a score so you will have to be creative and break out some cds or cue  up a playlist of mp3 to provide a musical accompaniment. I would like to hear from those of you who do this--what tracks did you use, etc. I love doing this to silent films, and have come to prefer that the archive edition come without a score.

Of course,  Downhill is the fourth in my series on the Hitchcock 9, the restoration effort by the British Film Institute.  Please support this noble, very worthy artistic cause.  Every penny or pound helps keep Hitchcock's early work for the next generation.
