Bernard Herrmann At 100: Master Of The Movie Score : Deceptive Cadence : NPR

Bernard Herrmann would have been 100 today.  The centenary does not return the composer to the forefront of film music--if anything, his reputation is undisputed now.  What the 100th underscores for me is just how much unwritten Herrmann music we've missed by such an early death.  Imagine at least another twenty years or in best case scenarios, thirty years of work from a maturing talent like Herrmann.

In honor of his birthday, there is a link below to an excellent article with score cues over at NPR, and then two bits from Herrmann.  The first is an interview that the composer recorded after scoring Francois Truffaut's The Bride Wore Black. The second, a recording of Herrmann's Concerto Macabre.
