BREAKING: To Catch a Thief Dress--$450,000 at Auction
Edith Head's lovely peach colored skirt and matching blouse sold for $450,000 at auction this weekend in Hollywood. The dress, worn in Alfred Hitchcock's To Catch a Thief (1955), was only one costume among many that went for six figure and beyond prices from the Debbie Reynolds Collection. Reynolds began collecting costumes from classic films in an effort to fund a Hollywood Museum. The museum never materialized, so the extraordinary collection was auctioned this weekend at the Paley Center in Los Angeles, CA.
Top dollar went to the Derby dress that Audrey Hepburn wore in My Fair Lady. The black and white period dress designed by Adrian sold for $3.7 milion. Marilyn Monroe's sequined red dress from Gentleman Prefer Blondes sold for $1.2 million. The entire collection, which took more than 12 hours to auction Saturday afternoon, raised more than $18 million for Ms Reynolds.
Grace Kelly in the now $450,000 collector's item peach dress designed by Edith Head for Alfred Hitchcock's To Catch a Thief. The film was shot in Monaco, and also starred Cary Grant, seen here as the two tour chateaus. |
