H9: Champagne and The Manxman

Champagne (1928)
A spoilt rich girl leads a life of luxury on the profits from her father's champagne business. To bring her back down to earth he tells her that all the money has been lost so she goes to seek her fortune. (© IMDB)

The Manxman (1928)

Hitchcock's final all-silent film, and in many ways, his most beautiful.  I've shown this film numerous times to students and invariably, it is selected as one of the best films of the semester (out of 20 or so titles from all periods).

Despite their differing backgrounds, fisherman Pete and lawyer Philip have been life long friends on the Isle of Man. Pete wants to marry Kate, the landlord's daughter at the local inn, however Kate's father doesn't think he is good enough. Pete leaves the island to seek his fortune abroad and entrusts Kate to Philip, but they start to be attracted to each other. (© IMDB)

I'm sorry, but both films are currently unavailable at Internet Archive.  The Manxman is available on Netflix's streaming service.
