The Summer of Hitch Love, Anon: Psycho in London

Janet Leigh, no doubt upset to have missed this evening screening at Watershed.  Details, and further details on future screenings below
Hitchcock's most imitated and influential film might never have happened if it weren't for Herrmann: the director didn't believe in the project and wanted to cut it down into an hour-long TV show - it was only when the score was written that it became a film. Who can imagine the legendary shower scene without the screeching, stabbing thrust of strings tightened as far as possible? A masterful moment and Herrmann's most famous piece of work. Psycho's music has an intensity all of its own that perfectly matches the dreadful horror which unfolds at the Bates Motel.
Double Points for Loyalty Card holders for all Bernard Herrmann screenings!
Special offer: save £1.00 off your ticket for Taxi Driver (opening Fri 24 June for at least 1 week) by showing any ticket from the On Dangerous Ground season to Box Office staff.
We will be publishing interviews with musicians and composers, some of whom have worked with Herrmann, others who have been profoundly influenced by him, on watershed.co.uk/herrmann throughout the month.
