Summer of Hitch Love in the great Northwest Style
From the Oregonian website:
HITCHCOCK AND HERRMANN 7 p.m. Saturday, Whitsell Auditorium; advance tickets at nwfilm.org or cmnw.org
Film and TV composer Bernard Herrmann was one of the all-time greats, the creator of innovative unforgettable scores ranging from "Citizen Kane" to "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (an early use of electronic instruments) and even the iconic "Twilight Zone" theme. But the filmmaker Herrmann is most associated with is Alfred Hitchcock, with whom he worked closely from 1955 to 1964, a period that produced "Psycho," "North by Northwest" and "Vertigo." A screening of the latter film makes up the second half of a program paying tribute to Herrmann's musical genius. The first half consists of David Shiffrin and members of Chamber Music Northwest playing live the composer's "Souvenir de Voyages" for clarinet and strings, followed by a discussion of Herrmann's work.
