Frenzy, Family Plot Reassessed at PopMatters

Jordan Cronk and Calum Marsh take a new look at Alfred Hitchcock's final films, Frenzy and Family Plot on the great site, PopMatters. Theirs is a refreshing examination of two films that often don't receive much critical attention.

Both film are solid Hitchcock movies and make nice book ends to the wide range of Hitchcock film possibilities--Frenzy is the more dark of the, infused with the blackest of dark humor.  Family Plot pairs nicely with (the far better) Trouble with Harry--one a film about a corpse without a grave, the other a grave without a corpse.  Both have a sense of humor a little trapped by their production years, but they still play well for modern audiences.  I've found in my courses that students tend to enjoy Family Plot more than many other better Hitchcock films--perhaps here, Hitch was ahead of his time in sensibilities.  By the way, Family Plot is currently available on Netflix streaming.
