Hitchcock's seminal thriller, Blackmail, is a rich evocation of London life. From its opening sequence with the police tracking down a wanted criminal through scenes on the London Underground, in Whitehall, the Lyon's Tea House at Piccadilly Circus and on to the climactic chase in and atop the British Museum the film is framed by a London we all to readily recognise.
Dates and venues to be announced.
To coincide with the BFI's restoration of Alfred Hitchcock's nine silent films, BFI Southbank is mounting a retrospective of all the extant features he directed. The season, running from August to mid-October, will take in both well-known classics and unfamiliar rarities like Murder (including the German version, Mary), Rich and Strange and his wartime propaganda shorts.
