Vertigo Variations update: Quality is in the download (so to speak)

James Stewart lost in Vertigo (Hitchcock, 1958).

The creators of Vertigo Variations have provided links to Quicktime downloads which are much superior to the streaming versions of their Vertigo Variations project. VV part one can be found streaming at the Moving Image Source and the filmmakers have also provided a higher quality download link here for part one and here for part two. B. Kite writes that the compression engine for streaming at Moving Image Source "takes files of any size and compresses them to 100 MB, which plays havok with these videos in particular, since they're full of "visual noise," which is exactly the kind of random data compression engines can't handle. This produces some really ugly blocks and other artifacts, not only in the sequences of solo static but also for the many parts where we have static as a texture behind an image."

For the true Vertigo aficionado and the serious film lover, I again encourage you to see parts one and two as soon as you can.  When part three is posted, I'll let you know here and after some time to digest, maybe we can take advantage of Google plus and get together to discuss these thought provoking visual essays on what may be the most important film of the last century (certainly in terms of time, time travel and any quantum physics notions of time).
