FRAUD!! NO VERTIGO PAINT SET! OH THE HUMANITY!!

Writing with Hitchcock's Steve DeRosa revealed today's Charlie Fulton post of the paint by numbers set to be carefully crafted hoax in a bizarre attempt to throw the movie tie-in collector's market into turmoil.

The market had just began wild bidding for the toy paint set from J. Rosenthal when DeRosa threw the largest wet blanket this side of the New Orleans's flood plain.  Further turmoil was caused by this author's mad assertion that DeRosa was pushing the "fake" in order to grab up the remaining sets (rumor has it that the author/lecturer/toy collector had created similar havoc when he managed to corner the market on the very rare North by Northwest paint by number sets).

The interchange on Facebook:
  • Charlie Fulton My friend Season Taylor shared this image from the Facebook page of Boom Underground. I don't know where they found it. The image looks pretty vintage to me, not an item one could easily purchase.

  • Writing with Hitchcock It's a fake, of course..but cute idea.

  • Alfred Hitchcock Geek Isn't that just like WWH to dash our dreams with the truth? I was seeing the apocryphal Vertigo Painting Set as the Maltese Falcon for the Hitchcock set--we were all set to kill each other to get our hands on it. (Elisabeth Karlin)

  • Dorian Kathleen Tenore-Bartilucci I sense a cottage industry on the horizon: paint-by-numbers classic movie scenes sets! I'd buy one! :-)

  • Writing with Hitchcock I was tempted to keep the dream alive by posting one for NxNW

  • Dan Auiler Fake--humbug. I saw one in the hands of a Greek ship captain--he was leaving for San Francisco. I couldn't see clearly the boat's name as this fat man was in the way with his "boy toy"!

  • Dan Auiler Steve is just trying to corner the market--as he already has the only existing NxNW one (shouldn't have tipped your hand, DeRosa!)
