save hitchcock:

On Saturday 20th October 2012 at 9.00pm, HBO will broadcast “THE GIRL” about Alfred Hitchcock’s working relationship with Tippi Hedren.

In the drama Hitchcock is accused of misogyny, sexual harassment and physical abuse, but during extensive research for two forthcoming books on “The Making of Hitchcock’s The Birds” (Kamera, March 2013) and the updated edition of “Hitchcock and the Making of Marnie” (Rowman, July 2013), many of the scenes depicted are proved to be inaccurate and misleading.

There are two sides to every story, but Hitchcock is not alive to defend himself. Some of his co-workers still are, including Louise Latham, Virginia Darcy, Rita Riggs and Norman Lloyd. They were willing to be recorded on tape and their testimony against the accusations will be published for the first time here on the eve of the HBO drama.

Also unpublished interviews with Evan Hunter, Jay Presson Allen and Jim Brown who unfortunately are no longer with us, will also be printed as they would be among the first to defend Hitchcock. Hitchcock blondes Kim Novak, Doris Day and Eva Marie Saint also comment on what it was like to be directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
