One Hundred Thousand
This week, Vertigo Falls was proud to have it's 100,000th visitor. This has been an extraordinary year for Hitchcock fans (seemingly everywhere, and who can blame the folks with good taste). Surreal is the only word for how this year has been for the Vertigo aficionados. When I wrote the making of Vertigo in 1997, I spent a good deal of my time not only justifying the need for that kind of book on that film. Cal Morgan, my editor at St. Martin's Press, was dedicated, loyal and never doubted that the film and my book would grow in appreciation. I'm not sure either of us imagined that the intensely personal Vertigo would rise up as the consensus Best Film Ever Made in the Sight and Sound poll held every decade. I'm still stunned; also proud of the film, the audiences that have set aside the formal jolts of the Hitchcock canon and embraced this dark, spiraling study of obsession and reality.
Millions of electronic stockings will feel slim, underfed and downright un-Hitchcockian, if I encourage to stuff those virtual stockings with the Kindle edition of Vertigo: The Making of a Hitchcock Classic. Hard and soft-bound editions are difficult to find (and not always so cheap)--and, even more tragically, all that good appreciative cash spent on dust-jackets will no longer provide even a 'twopence to yours truly. The Kindle edition is affordable and will be updated in the coming months and years with new material.
After Dec. 31st, 2012 the price Vertigo: The Making of a Hitchcock Classic will double. So don't be left hanging like poor Scotty. Follow the links to Amazon and make this holiday season a Vertigo green one.
